Meeting Notes: Episode 21

Another week, another episode! Thanks for tuning in again this week. Check out this week’s episode below if you haven’t already. Don’t forget we’re also on iTunes and you can download and subscribe there as well!

Fairy Tales Do Come True

We have to offer our biggest congratulations EVER to Ashley and Jared, who got married over the weekend in Rhode Island. Ashley looked like a PRINCESS. Honestly, we feel like we’re friends with them, we’ve watched them from the first day of Paradise and have been following their love story as it grew into this.

Perfection

In other Bachelor in Paradise news, we’re feeling like Caelynn is revealing more of her true colors than she did on Hannah’s season and we are starting to realize that she’s a little more manipulative than she lets on. While we can’t excuse Blake’s behavior, and we do agree that he wasn’t treating the ladies with respect, we DO NOT like the way Caelynn has handled the situation in paradise. We will have to see how this continues to unfold.

A Love Square?

What kind of world do we live in that Brody Jenner, Kaitlynn Carter, Miley Cyrus, and Liam Hemsworth would all be involved in tabloid drama within the same week? Recently, Brody and Kaitlynn announced their separation. We can’t call that a divorce because apparently they were never really married. Just last week, Liam and Miley announced they were separating. Over the weekend, these pictures surfaced…

No matter what the situation, is it ever in good taste to be kissing someone else a few days after you announce your separation with your husband? We think no.

Never Trust Instagram

We all know about Photoshop, Facetune and filters. They are EVERYWHERE on Instagram. But this article about how people are creating a super misleading photo might take the cake!

Not only are we being exposed to new locations around that world that are being overrun by tourists, but now those locations aren’t even REAL? Can we trust ANYTHING anymore??

Kate Middleton – Goddess

Kate showed up to a charity boat race in a striped peplum top and pants; however, she quickly changed in to something more appropriate for a boat race. Check out the pictures below, and admire how incredibly FLAWLESS this woman is.

(Photos: Chris Jackson/Getty)

It’s not typical for royal women to wear shorts, but it’s also not breaking any rules. Usually, it’s young boys that wear shorts and in the past, Kate’s worn jeans at this event. We think this look is absolutely perfect and not only do we admire her, but we wish we looked this amazing in a baseball cap, shorts, and sneakers.

You Need to Calm Down…Fall!

Okay guys, there’s a lot of debate about what exactly needs to calm down. Fall? People who like fall? Seasons? People who rush holidays? Pumpkin spice? The Ladies all have varying opinions on this controversial topic.

What we can all agree on is that people need to stop trying to rush us on to the next holiday. It is unequivocally TOO SOON to start bringing out Halloween costumes, cranberry sauce, and Christmas trees.

Let us know what YOU think about the arrival of fall and the pumpkin spice season!

The Ladies Recommend…

Libraries! Okay, hear us out. Chrissy Teigen recently went on social media praising the versatility of libraries. We SO support libraries. If you don’t know much about libraries, this video is for you…

Once you’ve got the basics down, you can start to enjoy the library. If you’re already a library connoisseur, this video may be more interesting to you…

Nursery Rhymes with Carrie

This week, Carrie refrains from scaring us to death and instead chose to share the origins and meaning being Humpty Dumpty. Now, you probably already picture this in your mind as an egg. The question is WHY considering it never says in the rhyme that this has anything to do with an egg. This one has a bunch of different ideas behind it. Check out this article HERE for even MORE.

Boys Boys Boys

We wrapped up this week talking about ALL things boys. Harry Styles turns down Prince Eric. Who would be better for it anyway? We had several ideas but would LOVE to hear what you think!

We’re going to a Backstreet Boys concert on Sunday and we cannot WAIT to share with you how it was. Meghan and Sam are going to see the Jonas Brothers in a couple weeks too. It is a boyband-palooza around here!

Thanks for tuning in this week! Next week, we’ve got BOYBANDS on the brain and new wind from La Grand Verre to taste and share with you! Use the link below to get your own La Grand Verre wine samples and try it out for yourself!

Meeting Notes: Episode 20

It’s meeting TWENTY! Whoo! Thanks for sticking with us and listening! If you haven’t listened yet, check it out below! Also, don’t forget you can find us on iTunes and subscribe there, if that’s your preferred app for podcast listening!

This week, Carrie and Sam were on their own while Meghan and Nicole enjoyed some family vacation time!

Too Young for Hair Dye?

Jessica Simpson recently came under fire for letting her seven year old daughter dye her hair. Carrie and Sam decided there is NO reason for people to be upset about this. SHe’s old enough to ask, she dyed on the ENDS of her hair, and since her hair is blonde, no bleaching necessary. Honestly, we love it. You do you, girl.

In response to all the criticism, the singer Pink got involved. Pink is a longtime hater of internet parent trolls. She consistently stands up to them and herself. Her response? She dyed her 8 year-old daughter’s hair blue to support Maxwell and Jessica.

Now, the only difference is that it’s Willow’s ENTIRE head of hair, instead of Maxwell’s ends…but really, why do we hate on this internet? And not to go all feminist on you, but do we care when boys dye their hair? Do we care when they get haircuts OR leave their hair to grow long? No we do not. Leave these girls (and their mamas!) alone.

Roadtrip!

Imagine thinking your four children are safe at home when in reality, they’ve stolen the car and are off on a 600 mile road trip. That’s exactly what happened to a family in Australia. This led Carrie and Sam to talk about a time Sam was involved with a moving car when she was kid. How old were you the first time you got behind the wheel of a car (alone?) We know there are different laws in different states. Were you following the law or did you break it? We would love to hear your stories!

Where Do Maps Come From?

The Australian road trip led to this question because Carrie shared that she struggled to use her phone GPS while away on vacation and then didn’t have a map available to help her out! We’ve become SO reliant on GPS that talks to us, updates, and can continually guide us on our travels, that we don’t often find maps in cars anymore. Nicole teaches map elements to her fourth grade students, but their experiences reading and using maps are limited in school and nonexistent outside of school thanks to technology.

Nowadays, we know cartographers use satellite images to make maps. Using views from above, and new technology, maps are pretty accurate. But what about BEFORE satellites, drones, and computers? How were maps made then? Here’s a great video to summarize the history of maps (and why we shouldn’t trust them AT ALL.)

Hot Dog Ice Cream is Real

Candied hot dog pieces, hot dog sweet cream, Spicy Dijon gelato, and a cookie bun…the people at Oscar Mayer believe that this combination of invented items that is allegedly edible actually would appeal to customers on National Ice Cream Day in New York City. And while we’re sure there were some brave souls that took the plunge, we are also sure it was NOT because they actually planned on enjoying hot dog ice cream sandwiches. It was more to say they did it. Check out the tweet below to get a picture of this vile product AND let us know if you would EVER eat a hot dog ice cream sandwich.

History’s Mysteries

There are some things in the distant past, and more recent past, that we do not have answers to. The reasons why vary, but the interest, lore and legend that surround these mysteries are appealing to history buffs everywhere. When you think of history’s greatest mysteries, you probably wonder…who WAS Jack the Ripper? Is there REALLY a big pit of money buried on Oak Island? WHEN did Elvis actually die? Did Hitler ACTUALLY escape?

75 years ago, Anne Frank and her family were somehow betrayed and discovered by the Nazis. The case is cold, as no one who was involved is able (or maybe willing?) to tell the story. Anne’s diary has become a literary staple, reminding everyone of the way that young, beautiful life was taken so cruelly during the Holocaust. A new team of investigators is attempting to determine how her family was discovered. You can check out the article HERE on National Geographic.

The question that we have to ask ourselves is why do we want to solve these mysteries? What will we gain? How will it help us? We have to wonder these things as we try to find the answers.

The conversation about Anne Frank reminded Sam of a documentary she watched called “The Accountant of Auschwitz.” Check out the trailer below.

Reboots in the 90210

Reboots are a THING. We’ve got ALL KINDS of TV shows coming back for more. Typically, each show finds a way to be a continuation of the story line from before; however, the 90210 reboot is doing things a little differently. Check out the trailer, listen to why Sam and Carrie are confused, and then let us know what YOU thought about the premiere.

Nursery Rhymes with Carrie

This week Carrie broke down the nursery rhyme “Mary, Mary, Quite Contrary” and made us all feel a little creeped out!

Mary Tudor, or Bloody Mary, is the Mary believed to be referenced in this nursery rhyme. Mary was a staunch Catholic, and spent most of her reign rooting out Protestants and persecuting them. It’s believed that about 300 people were killed by Mary during her rule.

The real question is HOW IN THE WORLD did this become a song we teach kids?

Meeting Notes: Episode 19

We’re moving on up in the world! No longer are the ladies on SoundCloud. We’re making it easier for you, our listeners, and are now on Spotify AND iTunes! Check us out below!

https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/meeting-19-disney-not-for-millennials-amanda-knox-crowd/id1474157542?i=1000445869535

An Apple a Day…

You’ve been eating apples entirely wrong. Did you know you’re supposed to eat the core AND the seeds? Nicole explained why scientists think that eating the entire apple is better for you than tossing the middle away. We aren’t sure we’d try this, but it could be the way of the future!

Disney World: The Happiest Place on Earth?

Not if you’re one mom who posted a RANT on Instagram about how terrible it was that childless people and Millennials get to go to Disney World. The incident happened back in September but it’s just recently gone viral. While we find A LOT of things wrong with the horrible things this woman said, the most important part of all this is to remember that she was upset because her kid had to wait in line for a Mickey soft pretzel. Once you hear our reactions, what do you think? Do you agree with us? We think perhaps this woman should be banned from Disney for her less than happy attitude.

Wedding Crowdfunding?

Let’s just start with this: there are VERY VERY VERY few circumstances when asking strangers to donate money so you can throw a wedding are appropriate. So when Amanda Knox (famous for being accused, convicted, acquitted, convicted, and acquitted again of her roommate’s murder) posted asking for help, people were not happy. Was it her history that bothered people? Was it the fact that she just traveled to Italy and that money could have been spent towards a wedding? Was it that she and her fiancee are planning an elaborate extraterrestrial themed wedding instead of just a small ceremony and backyard barbecue? Yes. Yes to all the things. What do you think? What is an appropriate way to ask for money for your wedding? Is this an overreaction or did she do the wrong thing?

If you need (or want) more information on Amanda Knox, check out THIS ARTICLE on Marie Claire that also shares the trailer for the Netflix documentary.

The Worst Possible Time

We’ve all been there. You are standing helplessly by as someone you know (and maybe love) is doing something at absolutely the worst possible time and you are powerless to stop it. You know everyone is staring (and judging) but what can you do? You’re annoyed, embarrassed, and frustrated. If you can think of a time this happened to you, you can definitely relate to this photo of Princess Claire and Belgium’s Prince Laurent who took a phone call during the national anthem which was being played as part of a military parade.

What’s the most cringeworthy thing you’ve seen done at a very inopportune time? Share with us!

Parents are Humans Too

We just want to thank Snooki for keeping it SO real and posting a picture that we at The Ladies Auxiliary can totally relate to.

She got a LOT of heat for this photo and honestly, we don’t get it. Some days, this is just what being a mom looks like.

Nursery Rhymes with Carrie

When you have kids, or spend time with kids, suddenly the nursery rhymes of your own childhood are pulled from the depths of your memory to be shared again. Unfortunately, they often get stuck there, ear-worms that float around in your brain ALL DAY LONG. The more you think about them, the more confused you become. Your brain begins to analyze the words, the motives, the lessons. Well, Carrie is here to help and she’s starting with “The Three Little Kittens.” Here is the full text of the poem just in case you haven’t heard it, or it’s been awhile:

The three little kittens, they lost their mittens,
And they began to cry,
“Oh, mother dear, we sadly fear,
That we have lost our mittens.”
“What!   Lost your mittens, you naughty kittens!
Then you shall have no pie.”
“Meow, meow, meow.”
“Then you shall have no pie.”

The three little kittens, they found their mittens,
And they began to cry,
“Oh, mother dear, see here, see here,
For we have found our mittens.”
“Put on your mittens, you silly kittens,
And you shall have some pie.”
“Purr, purr, purr,
Oh, let us have some pie.”

The three little kittens put on their mittens,
And soon ate up the pie,
“Oh, mother dear, we greatly fear,
That we have soiled our mittens.”
“What, soiled your mittens, you naughty kittens!”
Then they began to sigh,
“Meow, meow, meow,”
Then they began to sigh.

The three little kittens, they washed their mittens,
And hung them out to dry,
“Oh, mother dear, do you not hear,
That we have washed our mittens?”
“What, washed your mittens, then you’re good kittens,
But I smell a rat close by.”
“Meow, meow, meow,
We smell a rat close by.”

We theorize about the poem, but here’s another interpretation of what might have happened to those mittens…

The Bachelorette: Finale Recap

We all watched. We had out hearts broken right along with Peter and Tyler and Hannah. We felt like this was definitely one oft he craziest finales in Bachelorette history so we knew we had to bring in two Bachelorette experts, Ms. Carole and Amanda to help us analyze what really went down on finale night. They did a GREAT job summarizing what happened and sharing their opinions!

We don’t have much more to say about any of this, except if your greatest accomplishment to date is a dog food jingle, you can’t expect her dad to be TOO excited about your prospects. And leave it Bachelor nation to go digging up the commercial. Here it is, for your viewing pleasure…

With Jed out of the picture, our girl Hannah can move on to bigger, better, dreamier things like…

Tyler. Honestly, there is no bad ending here. Tyler gets back together with Hannah? Win. Tyler becomes the Bachelor? Win. We are all for any of these scenarios. We love Tyler and Hannah so much, we just want them both to be happy and we want to see MORE MORE MORE of them.

In closing, thank you Hannah for being the BEST Bachelorette we have seen in a LONG LONG time. We had the best time watching you be unapologetically yourself this season and we hope you find happiness forever!

Meeting Notes: Episode 18

Greetings from the Ladies Auxiliary! This week, Carrie took over as our host and we invited a special guest…KATIE! She came to hang out with us this week. Listen below on SoundCloud.

We have some exciting news! You can find The Ladies Auxiliary on Spotify AND iTunes now! Check us out on YOUR favorite streaming platform. We hope this makes it easier and more convenient for our listeners.

Introducing Katie

This week’s special guest is a faithful listener and has been our friend for YEARS. We LOVE Katie. Up first, Carrie asked Katie five questions to get to know her a little better. She’s a Virgo (just like Carrie and Sam) and believes her past life had to be sometime in the 60s. Katie identifies as an Nsyncer (can we be friends…?) but admits she was all about the Spice Girls (so yes, we can be friends.) We also learned that Katie drinks every time Meghan says Brady. She even gave us some constructive criticism that we didn’t know we needed! Be sure to listen to check out other things about Katie that you maybe didn’t know!

Area 51 Conspiracy Theories

Carrie is finally ready to accept and talk about Area 51. Here’s what we think is really going on…

  • The guy who started this whole event really DID want to storm Area 51; however, once the government, mainstream media, and EVERYONE else got wind of his plan and it because a real thing, the government contacted him and basically told him to shut it down OR ELSE. So he had to say it was a joke so he didn’t get in trouble.
  • There really IS some big alien thing going down on September 20 but not at Area 51. The government planted this “storm Area 51” idea to distract citizens from the REAL stuff that’s going to go down on that date. Maybe alien related? Maybe not? Somewhere else in the United States? Somewhere else in the world?

What are your thoughts about Area 51? Do you think it was a joke or do you buy into one of these conspiracy theories?

We’re Beachin’

Last weekend, the Ladies Auxiliary took to the beach! We all have different feelings about the beach. The idea of endless water, the vast unknown and the creatures that could be lurking there makes Carrie, Katie and Meghan feel a lot of anxiety. On the other hand, Nicole and Sam love that the ocean makes them feel so small. We all went with family and friends, so it was a great time!

How do you feel about the beach? Do you love it? Are you a sunbather or an ocean swimmer? Can you stay out all day or do you prefer to go inside every now and then? Do you like the sun? the shade? We all have different opinions on this one!

Beach Etiquette

The one thing we can ALL agree on are some simple beach etiquette rules. Here they are (in summary)

  • If you are going to set up ALL YOUR CHAIRS and umbrellas in the front row, you should be out to enjoy them before 1:00 p.m. – it’s rude. We understand that someone got up early and set them up, but please, use them or don’t bother putting them up.
  • Do NOT cram yourself in a small space between groups of people. There should be at least 5 yards between you and the next person’s chairs. It’s weird and uncomfortable for everyone.
  • Don’t leave your things and expect someone else to watch them for you.
  • Wherever you come on to the beach, stay near that spot. Don’t wander down fourteen blocks to find the “perfect” place.
  • Clean up your trash!

Are we forgetting anything? Is there anything else that REALLY annoys you that people do at the beach?

Beach Trivia

Sam was FULL of interesting beach trivia. We learned a lot listening to her facts! Including some creepy facts about horseshoe crabs…

Photos: Calvert Cliffs from the Maryland DNR and a horseshoe crab from PBS

Nick Jonas and the Dad Bod

We’ve all heard of the dad bod. Here are the pictures that the ladies talked about during this week’s episode. What are your thoughts? Big lunch and lots of drinks? Less toned? Just not photoshopped? Either way, can we just agree that Nick Jonas is hot and we are here for him no matter what he looks like?

Arrested for Banana Pudding Food Fight?

When Nicole first saw this headline, she KNEW we had to discuss this on the podcast. The article headline said “Young Dro Arrested for Attacking Girlfriend with Banana Dessert.” Turns out, there was a little more to it than that. You can read the whole article HERE. What kind of food would you throw at your significant other if you were really mad?

If Board Games had Realistic Names

Carrie shared with us some titles for board games if they were given names based on what ACTUALLY happens. She had names for Sorry, Mousetrap, Monopoly, Life, Yahtzee, Twister, Risk, and Hungry Hungry Hippos. Can you think of any other classic games that need a realistic name? We LOVE board games, and so this list was so fun for us to read. The article gave realistic names for twenty different games. Check out the rest of them HERE.

Inside the White House

With each new president, the White House undergoes a sweeping change. The first lady has a responsibility to decorate the residential wing of the White House, while the President is in charge of creating his space in the Oval Office. Meghan and Katie love all things Kennedys and presidents so they had TONS of good and interesting information to share about the White House. Below, you can watch the TV tour mentioned in this week’s episode!

And for the whole story on the desk in the Oval Office, CLICK HERE!

Health Effects of Binge Watching

When was the last time you sat and watched an ENTIRE season of a show in one day? Probably pretty recently. Netflix, Amazon Prime video, and other streaming services, have made it easy and convenient to watch hours and hours of our favorite shows and series. Unfortunately, there may be some unintended consequences of binge watching! Carrie shared with us this week why binge watching may be bad for your health. After you finish watching your next binge-worthy series, check in with yourself to see if any of these effects are happening to you!

The Staircase

If you’ve watched the Netflix documentary, “The Staircase” then this part of the episode is FOR YOU! The ladies recapped the episode and what happened, giving us some details of the case. Then, Katie shares with us some of the conspiracy theories that surround this murder mystery. She and Sam explain why these theories might be accurate and since Katie listened to a podcast about it, she could give us some more information! She also explains WHY the Netflix series left out some of the information and why a theory about OWLS might actually be true! We still don’t know what happened, but this story definitely creates a lot of conversation and we’re not sure we’ll ever know the truth.

The Ladies Recommend

Big thumbsie upsies for our favorite dessert shop: Sweet Beaks! Check out their Facebook page HERE. It’s whimsical interior is full of delicious homemade ice cream and amazing treats. It’s a family-owned shop and we HIGHLY recommend that you check them out. Try the blueberry crisp ice cream if it’s on the menu! Here’s a picture of just one of the very awesome dessert treats you can order! Isn’t it gorgeous?

The same family also owns a super yummy restaurant down in Ocean City called The Hungry Seagull. Check out their Facebook page HERE. We ordered tons of food while we were at the beach and it was all delicious.

As always, thanks for listening! A HUGE thanks to Katie for joining us. We hope she’ll be back again! And thanks to YOU for hanging with us another week. Tune in next week for more great conversation and the wrap of the Bachelorette!

Meeting Notes: Episode 17

Welcome! Thanks for tuning in to episode 17. If you haven’t listened already, you can check it out below. Be sure to follow us on Soundcloud, if you haven’t already, and listen to this and all our other episodes as well!

This week, we covered a bunch of different current event topics, a human interest story, and of course, discussed the Bachelorette.

Aliens Among Us?

This topic was difficult for us to talk about because if there is one thing Carrie hates in the world, it is aliens. We actually considered NOT talking about this, but we had to. Listen to hear why Area 51 has become a very hot news topic.

Of all the news outlets out there, Time decided to put together a collection of great Area 51 memes, and also summarize the story. Check out the article HERE.

As a group, we decided that even if there WAS anything at Area 51 related to alien life, it wouldn’t still be there on September 20th when the big event is supposed to go down.

Let’s Go For a Swim

Picture this. It’s a hot summer day in Illinois. You have a brand new (pretty big) inflatable pool and you’re looking forward to cooling down. The only problem is you don’t have a way to inflate the pool. What do you do?

For one mom, the answer was obvious. Drive over to a friend’s house and inflate the pool, then bring it home. Unfortunately, the drive home was the problem.

This story left us feeling befumbled, as our dear friend Hannah Brown likes to say. Check out the picture below as you listen to the whole story.

PHOTO: Dixon Police Department

The Heart of Life is Good

Carrie shared with us a great story about an unexpected power outage in New York City and how some people made the best of it. The blackout was caused when a piece of equipment belonging to the Consolidated Edison power company malfunctioned. It lasted 5 hours, on Saturday July 13.

While it was definitely an inconvenience to the over 72,000 customers impacted, it’s effects were more felt downtown in the city. Carrie shared with us what some Broadway shows did when the power went out. We also shared some videos of the performances with you here!

Save the Earth…Carefully!

A story has been circulating recently about the dangers of metal straws. Meghan shared with us a story from a little while ago that’s recently made headlines, as people are jumping on the no straw trend. The moral of the story? Use that straw safely! Or try paper or silicon instead!

We totally support the elimination of one-use plastic straws, but that’s definitely not the ONLY thing that’s going to save the ecosystem. As the Ladies Auxiliary gets ready to hit the beach this weekend, Carrie shared with us some interesting facts about our very own unique body of water, the Chesapeake Bay.

Now, people are calling for Maryland to sue Pennsylvania for being the reason that we’re still struggling so badly to keep the Bay clean. Check out the article here.

Maryland isn’t the only place that’s trying to make a positive environmental change. There’s been a push in Europe recently to try to become climate neutral, which means reducing their carbon emissions to a point that they no longer impact the environment. As of now, 22 countries have joined in and one of the new candidates for the EU Parliament is making her case for why it’s SO important that everyone jumps on board. We WHOLEHEARTEDLY support this too!

It’s going to take a world of change to help save our planet, but we believe it’s so worth it. As long as you stay safe while doing it!

Oldest, Middle, Youngest, or Only?

More than 80% of people int he world have a sibling. So how does birth order impact our lives? Web MD says it does! Check out their birth order quiz HERE to get information on how birth order changes people.

The idea of birth order influencing who you are was really developed by Alfred Adler. He believed that personality traits were influenced by development, which means that your birth order played a big role. If you want more information about his theories, check them out HERE.

Does your personality match Adler’s theory? We also wonder if astrological signs influence this at all…the answer is yes, they have to!

Strong Women Make Headlines

We talked a little bit about Diane Keaton and her decision to stay single for basically ever and touched again the USWNT and some of the headlines they’ve made this week. BIG thumbsy upsies to Secret for going above and beyond to close the pay gap. We talk about why we think it’s more reasonable than some people say, and why we STILL LOVE the USWNT.

The Ladies Recommend…

As always, Sam comes through again with a new Netflix recommendation. She wanted “The Staircase” and suggests YOU do the same! Check out the trailer:

Carrie also started watching. Next week, we’re going to have a special guest on the podcast, and will talk about some true crime documentaries and specials, if you are in to that kind of thing (which we are.) Some other great documentaries Sam recommends, if in your mind you are actually a detected (aren’t we all?) are The Keepers and Evil Genius, both on Netflix!

Victoria’s Secret, a Thing of the Past?

We ALL LOVE a great deal when it comes to new bras and underwear. The question is, can you still get that at Victoria’s Secret? Recently, the company has been in the news for dropping stocks. Carrie reached out to some friends on Facebook and they shared why they do’t shop at Victoria’s Secret anymore and where they shop instead. We were not surprised that most people said it was too expensive. Where do YOU shop for bras? Are we, as a generation, changing our minds about what undergarments should be like? We’d love to hear your thoughts and any recommendations you have about where to buy the best bras!

The Bachelorette Update

There may be too much information to unpack in this week’s episode to put here in this blog post. Stay tuned for our thoughts on the fantasy suite dates coming later this week. We are so blown away by Hannah (and most of her guys) that we feel like she deserves a post all her own. Plus, it’s way too much to unpack here at the end.

In other Bachelor Nation news, Tyler’s social media continues to help build him up as the next Bachelor, assuming he doesn’t win and wants it. Peter’s ex-girlfriend from MONTHS before filming came out and dropped her story like it was the same as Jed’s, which it’s NOT. Almost everyone that’s a part of the franchise has said so, and so we can all agree that while he maybe wasn’t completely honest with her, he wasn’t texting her that he loved her as he boarded the plane. So…

The most exciting news broke right as we were recoding this week’s episode: Wells and Sarah Hyland are engaged! People covered the story and you can see pictures from their engagement HERE in the article. Also, check out Instagram for more! We are so very excited about this one as we have loved Wells (and Sarah) for a long time.

Thank you SO much for listening! We can’t wait to be back next week!

Meeting Notes: Episode 16

You Need to Calm Down

Thank you Taylor Swift, for giving us an anthem that we used as the theme of this week’s episode. If you haven’t heard her new song, listen to it here!

Now that you’ve checked out Taylor’s new song, you’re ready to listen to this week’s episode. Hear it by clicking below!

The USWNT does NOT need to calm down

Congratulations to the U.S. Women’s National Team on their HUGE World Cup victory. We are SO proud of these ladies who are unapologetically badass. We celebrate the amazing talent and confidence that these women have.

The Bottle-Cap Challenge

The only reason this came up, at all, was because Nicole saw Mariah Carey’s version and declared that she won the challenge. No one can top her version. We don’t know where this started, but it seems like it started outside the sphere of “celebrities” and then quickly became popular. Justin Bieber and Kendall Jenner are two of the more recent celebs who posted videos. Good Morning America did a segment on it. Here’s the video:

The real question we have is – why is this even popular? Especially because it’s obvious that the bottle top is loose and already easy to knock off the bottle. Carrie thinks we’ve simply run out of things to talk about.

The Church of England Says We Need to Calm Down on Social Media

In an attempt to make the social media world a happier, more positive place, the Church of England has released a set of guidelines that will apply to anyone responding to their official accounts. Basically, if you’re rude, unkind, or spreading false information, they will block you, report you, and/or delete your post.

They also encouraged people, of any or no faith, to try to use better judgement when positing on social media. You can read the entire release here.

We absolutely subscribe to this idea. Before you post something answer this question: are you saying this to help the situation, offer constructive criticism, or provide a balanced point of view? If not, don’t post it!

Mad at Meghan Markle? You Need to Calm Down.

Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor was christened on July 6 in a private ceremony and people are annoyed. While the media has never had FULL access to the christenings, they have been given some access, particularly with the walk to the church, etc. With Archie? Not happening. We did get two official photos, Archie wore the heirloom gown, and there were plenty of nods to Diana, which are usually enough to make people happy. But some other recent events (…3 million dollars in home renovations….) have ruffled some feathers. We discuss this and how the Queen remains calm but uses her endless amounts of royal jewelry to show people how she really feels.

Mermaids Aren’t Real So You Need To Calm Down

Disney has decided to re-make bunches of their old cartoon movies. If you ask us, this is a brilliant marketing move. All the kids who fell in love with Disney movies are now adults and many have kids of their own. We’re the ones spending the money now, and what better way to reel us all back in than to remake our favorite movies, now as live action.

We’ve already seen live-action remakes of Cinderella, Mary Poppins, and The Jungle Book. The Lion King will be released in a couple days, Aladdin is coming, and the trailer for Mulan recently debuted during the World Cup Final match. A few days ago, Disney announced that they had casted Halle Bailey as Ariel and the internet did NOT stay calm.

We all can agree that there’s no reason why Ariel can’t be African-American. A lot of people are hoping Disney keeps Ariel’s red hair, and we totally get that. Nicole loves the idea that even MORE girls are going to feel represented when they see this version of Ariel. More than anything, we think this casting is brilliant because of talent. The girl can sing. To make a long story short, isn’t it okay to have MULTIPLE versions of the same story? Why can’t we have different interpretations of Ariel? And to Carrie’s point, the REAL Little Mermaid story is actually terrifying, and this Disney version doesn’t match the original Danish version at all.

We discuss this and would love to hear your thoughts as well.

Burger King Needs to Calm Down

We can’t even write too much about this because it’s too absurd. Burger King will be selling crunchy tacos for one dollar a piece and all we have to say is no.

Well, except for Carrie, who really likes Burger King. We discuss the reasons why we won’t be purchasing a taco from Burger King and why we think they are even attempting a foray into tacos. Will you be picking up a taco from Burger King when they hit the menu? Let us know!

Calm Down: Marriage and Intimacy is Hard!

Meghan shared an article with us about Julianne Hough. She opened up on her husband’s podcast about how recently they saw a therapist to help them grow their intimacy, physical connection, and marriage, all while they are struggling to conceive. We feel like this is such a loaded conversation, and the pressures and benefits of marriage and intimacy are so all-consuming, we really connected to her feelings!

Boys, You Need to Calm Down

Our recap for The Bachelorette this week is pretty much like every recap we’ve done before. We spend all this time on Luke, and have no idea what the other relationships are like. We also feel like if it comes down to Tyler and Peter, we may not even have a preference because we don’t know who we like more because we haven’t seen anything to make us feel something. If Hannah chooses anyone but Luke, we feel like ABC has really done her love story a big disservice because there will be ZERO documentation of how it actually came about.

Hometowns were this week and while we will discuss them in next week’s episode, the highlights were…

  • Peter’s family is adorable. Peter is obsessed with Hannah. We really like Peter because he’s genuine and sweet. The German shouting was hilarious. We think Hannah and Peter could be a good match, although his mom seems nervous about him getting his heart broken again.
  • Tyler has a big old heart. Seeing Tyler and his Dad was so sweet! We loved watching them reunite. Hannah had a lot of concerns about Tyler’s readiness to settle down, but we like the way his brothers helped ease her mind by reminding her that he had to grow up really quickly and they think it changed his mind. Also, his Dad calling Hannah Miss Hannah B. is the CUTEST thing.
  • Luke…I mean. The fact that his family was SHOCKED that he didn’t get along with everyone means that they are the reason he acts like this to begin with. They seem to think he is absolutely perfect and can’t believe why anyone wouldn’t be in love with him. Also, his church friends were completely unconvincing. We aren’t sure they felt like the best judges of character. His mom however is gorgeous, Luke has her same eyes, and we wish we had her hair. Okay, and did it creep anyone else out that his brother’s wife is also Hannah?
  • Jed. Jed. Jed. OF COURSE they went to a recording studio. Why hasn’t Jed’s music career taken off you ask? Because he’s not a good singer. All this conversation about how will Hannah cope with him doing the music thing is basically pointless because he won’t be doing the music thing. I think we should take Luke Pell’s career as a model for how this is going to work out for Jed. Luke had a little bit of success after his stint on The Bachelorette, but it turned out he was kind of a womanizer and not that talented (and he’s better than Jed) and he faded into oblivion. On top of all that, Jed’s parents and his sister were NOT about Jed and Hannah. They basically told her she shouldn’t pick him. Now we already know Hannah tends to ignore the red flags, but hopefully she will see how drastically different this hometown felt and take action.

She gives everyone a rose and Jed is NOT HAPPY about this. Jed, you need to calm down. She talked to Chris Harrison about not being ready to close the door and she needs more time to explore these relationships, and that just means the fantasy suites. Let’s not trick ourselves into thinking she’s going to find some deep emotional connection. She wants to test out the physical connections before she sends someone home. We do find it promising that she was able to give Tyler and Peter roses right away, and left Jed and Luke to sweat it out.

Jed released a statement this week about how his family is basically being harassed in light of all the stories that have come out recently and to this we have to say: CALM DOWN PEOPLE. If you are someone who actually goes up to Jed or his family in person and yells at them, threatens them, or treats them badly based on a TV show, you need to get a life. We are concerned about you. Get a hobby. Volunteer. Read a book. Nothing that happens on reality TV should impact your life SO MUCH that you have to take it with you after the show is over.

Next week is the big confrontation with Luke, and we already know we’re going to be telling Luke he needs to calm down.

It Was the 80s So You Need to Calm Down

Sam is a BIG fan of Stranger Things, the creepy Netflix show that has gained tons of popularity. Recently, the show has received some backlash for the amount of smoking it shows on screen.

Not only is this our recommendation for the week, but it’s also another reminder that people need to calm down. Smoking in public, smoking around kids, and smoking in general were WAY more accepted a few decades ago than it is now. Sam made some great points about why this should NOT be a thing…and why we think if you’re actually parenting your kiddos, you should not take issue with this. We also think there are PLENTY of other things on television that you could complain about.

Everyone Needs to Calm Down

If you want to get upset about something y’all, get upset about stuff that matters. Tweet about injustices, inequalities, and tweet for people who don’t have a voice. Take care of your neighbors. Watch out for kids in your community. Stand up against violence, abuse, and unkindness. Don’t be calm about that stuff.

But please, calm down about everything on the internet that actually is not going to impact your real life AT ALL.

Thanks for checking in with us! Catch ya next week!

Meeting Notes: Episode 15.5

It’s a holiday week here in the U.S.A. and between July 4 and the fact that we had something a little different to share with you this week, we decided on a mini-meeting. If you haven’t listened yet, check it out below.

Recently, we signed up for the Ambassador program with the French Artisan wine company La Grand Verre. You can check out their website HERE!

Basically, when you sign up, they send you a package of four different wines. The wine comes in these pretty little bottles. In each bottle, you get a BIG glass of wine to taste.

The wines also come with tasting cards for each type. The cards tell you the name of the wine, who made the wine, and give you a great description of the flavors you should expect. The card also lists the grapes used to make the wine. There’s also a QR Code on the card to give you even more information (AND we learned that iPhone users can check out just by hovering over it with your camera and holding down on the image of the code on your screen!)

It would be impossible to summarizer our reactions and our feelings about the wine here in the blog. We each had a flavor that we liked just a little bit more than the others. You HAVE to listen to hear what we think.

Once you sample all the wine, you can customize your next box. You can get four more samples or get more samples PLUS get more of your favorite kind. There are different pricing options and different shipping options. You can get wine weekly, monthly, or once a quarter! The pricing varies a little bit, but four glasses of wine for $29.99 works out to about $7.50 a glass. This is about what you would pay out at dinner anyway, and in a lot of cases, even less!

If you’re interested in signing up, CLICK HERE! You’ll get a special deal on your first order, just for being a Ladies Auxiliary listener!

As we were tasting, we decided it would be a good opportunity to tell you a little bit about how we all know each other and why we fully and totally believe in THIS story about the “Red String of Fate” and how it has impacted our lives.

We’re certain that our lives, and the lives of our families, friends, and those around us, were absolutely meant to intertwine. We’re so thankful for each other and the way our tribe has grown and expanded and stretched to include all the awesome men, ladies, and kiddos we get to do life with.

We hope you enjoyed this mini-meeting! We’ll be back next week to discuss, babble, and banter some more!

Meeting Notes: Episode 15

For some reason, the number 15 felt significant, and it got things off to a strange start at our fifteenth meeting. Listen below!

Do you see numbers in color? Do you think some numbers have a gender? Do you have a strange thing about even, odd, multiples of five, or your TV volume? Be sure to let us know!

Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century

We LOVE Zenon. We’d be willing to put it up near the very top of the best Disney Channel movies ever made. Carrie filled us in on an interesting fact – Zenon was released 20 years ago, and the date it was supposed to take place in was only 30 years from now! Is this mind-boggling? She shares with us some of the things the movie got right (and wrong) about the future. And if you’re missing Zeno, enjoy this clip below of our favorite song.

Zoom Zoom Zoom!

Party Like It’s 1999

And speaking of 1999, in the news a few days ago was ANOTHER headline about *NSYNC doing a reunion. We had to discuss this because it keeps coming up and we wish people would just squash it. This time we have to blame Ariana Grande for brining up 4/5 of the *NSYNC guys at Coachella. We love their music as much as the next boyband lover, and we really love JT, but this is one reunion we DO NOT see happening.

Also, PSA, the Backstreet Boys never broke up. Enjoy this little BuzzFeed Debatable. It covers a lot of the key points, except they fail to mention “Everybody” which is the ONE song that gets LITERALLY EVERY SINGLE PERSON up and moving and singing along no matter when or where it’s played.

For real though, this is all in good fun. We all know Backstreet Boys are the best. Sorry not sorry.

And let’s not forget the Jonas Brothers. Now there’s a reunion to talk about, people.

“Gone Girl” In Real Life?

A Connecticut woman named Jennifer Dulos has been missing since May 24. According to all reports, she’s smart and imaginative. Decades ago, long before the “Gone Girl” book was released, she wrote her own version of a story where the wife stages her own murder to frame her husband.

Now, her estranged husband and his girlfriend are suggesting that she did that exact thing.

We summarized the story for you, but read the article HERE. And be sure to check out the book and the movie “Gone Girl” because you will not be disappointed.

The World Cup

Update: The USWNT won against Spain, but barely. France beat Brazil. This sets up a highly anticipated United States vs. France match up on Friday. Bust out your stars and stripes, people! (Reminder that France’s colors are also red, white, and blue…so….)

What’s Your Airplane Seat Worth To You?

Recently, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton made headlines in a strange way. While getting ready to fly to France for Paris Fashion Week, Cam had an aisle seat in coach. He’s a big guy, checking in at 6’5″ and 245 pounds, and is looking for a little extra leg room on the long flight. He approaches a passenger sitting in a seat that has a little more space. Here’s the video of what happened:

You can’t hear the conversation, but Cam apparently offers the guy $1,500 for his seat. When the guy refuses, Cam walks dejectedly back to his seat and sits down. This video brought up so many questions about what would you switch seats for, why would you switch seats, and most importantly why in the world wasn’t Cam already in first class?

Share your thoughts with us on social media! Would you have moved for free? For $1,500? Or would you have said NO!

Turkey Crossing

Carrie had a lot of good stuff to share with us this week. Check out this feel good video below of a turkey from New Hampshire helping out the other turkeys in his rafter.

The Ladies Recommend…

In case you haven’t noticed, Sam is our in-house expert on movies and tv-series that you should definitely check out. This week, she recommends watching “Years and Years” which aired on the BBC and is now on HBO. You can watch the trailer below.

While not for the faint of heart, Sam says it was interesting and kind of like Black Mirror, so if you have the time and interest, check it out!

Time For Deep Thoughts

Sam posed this question to us this week: “If all your memories were erased, what kind of person would you be?” There were some thoughtful answers. Who would you be?

She also questioned us about doorbells. Millennials are giving up doorbell use. We talked about what we do and think when we hear a doorbell and how technology has changed the way we visit one another.

Share your thoughts with us! Are we the only ones who freak out when the doorbell rings? Does your doorbell even work? Let us know!

The Bachelorette Recap

Now that we’ve mostly recovered from the disaster that was the recap episode, we can return to focusing on the disaster that is Luke and these other buffoons who cannot let anything go. Never in the history of The Bachelorette has there been a group of guys who continue to dwell on the same nonsense week after week after week and continue to put themselves in the middle of the drama on purpose.

Now, to be fair, we know that usually the “villain” doesn’t stick around this long, but we have absolutely hit our max when it comes to Luke and the arguing that goes on about Luke. And we’re stuck with him for at least one more week. Probably two. Or more. Hell, he might even win the whole damn thing. The longer this goes on, the more we’re worried that Hannah really might think she can save him. As we’ve said before, there’s nothing to save. He is who he is. The worst part about Luke is he does’t realize he comes across as the world’s biggest bonehead (to use his very own word) so when someone tell him he is, he tries to backtrack and ends up talking in circles.

It was VERY clear that Luke was unhappy about Hannah’s not-completely-clothed bungee jumping with Garrett, who got a rose (even though he is increasingly getting on Nicole’s nerves.) So when Luke tried to take it back and say he didn’t care, or that she could do whatever she wanted with her body, we were SO MAD. He was purposely trying to confuse Hannah and manipulate the situation, AGAIN. As always, we feel proud of Hannah for calling these guys out and living her life, but every time she gives Luke a rose, I just wish she would follow through and trust herself.

Besides more Luke drama, there was a lot of making out with Peter in a bunch of different situations. Hannah recognized that the two of them needed to find some more ground to stand on and couldn’t just make out all night, and good for her. This already shows that she’s more sensible than other Bachelorette’s who think that kissing boys is the only reason to be on this show. Hannah eventually asked Peter how his job as a pilot affects his dating life and he did an amazing job of not answering her question, but somehow making her feel like he answered her question. Being lonely and traveling a lot is not how it impacts your relationship, Peter. Those are the things Hannah is worried about. She needed a little reassurance that she wasn’t going to be sitting at home all the time while you flew around the world. BUT Hannah seemed satisfied with his answer not answer and gave him a rose, so I guess it worked.

After another cancelled cocktail party, which the guys blamed on Luke, again, the rose ceremony finally arrived and we said goodbye to Dylan and Dustin. Considering the guys who are left, we have to see a big step up from Connor S. next week if he’s going to make it any further. Mike may be on his way out too, unless he can get some time to talk with Hannah and make a move.

Besides a lot of annoyed fans, there was a lot of drama in Bachelor Nation with Jed’s alleged girlfriend. We discussed this in this episode and honestly, we just have to see how the whole thing plays out. We think there may be a chance Jed really fell in love with Hannah while he was there and didn’t expect to, and so time will tell what happens between them and what happens after that. On top of that, Reality Steve dropped some spoilers a couple weeks ago and then CHANGED his spoilers last week. If you read up on that stuff, DON’T TELL US. We just know he changed his mind.

Sam lost Dylan this week, and Dustin went home (finally) so now the only person who still has all five of her original picks is Meghan. We’ll see what happens next week, leading up to hometowns, although I’m sure we can all predict more of the same.

Thank you SO much for listening and checking in with us here. Be sure to interact with us on social media. Carrie decided to throw in a little wine-glass giveaway in this week’s episode, so be sure to listen for it so you can win one!

Meeting Notes: Episode 14

Welcome back! Thanks for checking in! If you haven’t listened to episode 14 yet, check it out below!

The Great Target Register Crash of 2019

Picture this: you’re in Target filling your cart with all the Target goodness. You’re FINALLY ready to leave, head to register, and realize the lines aren’t moving. The registers are down. What do you do?

People across the country had to answer that exact question this weekend. We talk about what happened (a “glitch” in the system) and what we would do if left in Target for two hours with no way to check out!

USWNT and The World Cup

Another win for the U.S. Women’s National Team against Chile in the World Cup! Check out the highlights below. Did you notice the golf clap celebration? We LOVE that these ladies are not afraid to take on all their critics.

An article was just recently released that actually shows that the USWNT has been bringing in more revenue through their ticket sales than the USMNT. This is especially interesting, and important to note, because the U.S. Women’s team recently filed a gender discrimination lawsuit against the U.S. Soccer Federation. In the lawsuit, the U.S. Soccer Federation said that the women’s team wasn’t generating as much income as the men’s, and that’s why there was a discrepancy between salaries (and other things.) I guess this new report makes it kind of hard to say that?

We can’t wait to see how the women fare when they meet up with their first real challenge of the tournament against Sweden.

Although, BIG SHOUT OUT to the Chilean goalie, Christiane Endler, for being the only reason that game wasn’t a HUGE blowout. She was incredible.

What Is Happening in the DR?

Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you’ve probably heard some crazy stories coming out of the Dominican Republic. Not only was David Ortiz shot in the back by a hired assassin, but it seems like everyone who travels there is either poisoned, assaulted, or dies from some strange unknown event that has been labeled “natural causes.” It FEELS way too suspicious, but is there anything to really be worried about? We tried our best to summarize what’s been happening, but with so many unknowns, it’s definitely difficult!

CNN has a great article that answers some of our most burning questions. Check it out HERE

Although we totally understand the concern, we did have to wonder why people are afraid to travel to the DR, but consistently visit tourist locations where crime is common? More people are killed in our cities on a daily basis than tourists to the DR in the last year, and we still visit those! If you have plans to travel to the DR, BE SAFE.

Oh and if you have A LOT of free time, check out iwaspoisoned.com

Technological Hippies in a Time Free Zone

Thanks to Geology.com for this map!

Two articles caught our attention this week. First up, there’s an island in Norway who is pitching to be the first time-free zone in the world. Now, we aren’t completely sure how this would logistically work, but once you hear the reason why you might understand. In case you too need a map to find Norway in the world, we’ve got you covered. Could you live in a time-free zone? Could you live through the Polar Nights? Meghan doesn’t think she could live where the sun doesn’t set for 69 days. Tell us what YOU think and read more about this idea here on the BBC website.

Carrie coined a new label for our generation this week, calling us technological hippies, after we discussed the official change of the Grand Canyon National Park to a “Dark Sky Park.” Wondering what that means? Samantha told us and explained why this was an important move.

The Milky Way Galaxy at Yaki Point – Courtesy of the National Park Service

As a generation, we’re in an interesting position. We didn’t grow up with ALL the technology, so while we LOVE the convenience of it, we also want to embrace the environment, Mother Nature, and seem to want to take some steps to find out how we can use technology to take us BACK in time a little bit. We LOVE this idea of simplification and using technology to enjoy when life was a little slower, quieter, and simpler. Would you mind being called a technological hippie? Do you agree on that new nickname? We kind of like it!

The Ladies Recommend…Chernobyl?

We don’t mean the real place, Chernobyl. After listening, we hope NO ONE ever wants to actually go there.

Sam tells us about a recent HBO mini-series she watched about Chernobyl. The miniseries chronicles the explosion of the nuclear power plant in April, 1986. You have to listen to find out what about this makes Carrie and I BOTH open our drinks. There was SO MUCH to unpack here just from this conversation, but we HIGHLY recommend that you go check it out. There are only 5 episodes, and Sam told us that it starts out with what actually happened, the after-effects, and then loops back around to explain why and how it happened.

After listening to Sam’s descriptions and discussing this topic, we were horrified. If anyone can explain why this world has nuclear weapons, or who thinks we need this nuclear stuff at all, please let us know. We are at a loss.

Winning and Olympic Gold

Carrie texted us all before we got together and posed this question:

If ________, were an Olympic sport, I’d take gold.

What is your immediate answer to this question? Do you go with your gut? Would you have to think about it? Are your answers the same as ours?

This was a fun question to think about! You HAVE to reach out to us on social media and share what your answer would be!

The Bachelorette Recap

In this week’s podcast episode, we talk about the lack of personality there with Luke and what other guys we think we like now. Then we went and watched this week’s episode and we’re wondering: is there anything to even talk about this week? Here’s our interpretation of this week’s episode:

  • Hannah was SICK AND TIRED of those boys arguing. We did not like the way Garrett handled the situation by hearing from Hannah that she made Luke talk and then going back and giving Luke a hard time. We totally understand though that Luke lied, and that was the main point, although the guys didn’t do a good job explaining that.
  • We do not understand this mid-season recap. The only reason it’s acceptable is if it means we will have no more to-be-continued episodes. Otherwise, it’s a waste of time. We’ve been watching for weeks. We do not need to see everything we JUST SAW all over again.
  • We subscribe (wholeheartedly) to mid-season bloopers. Give us ALL the bloopers. We need an entire episode of bloopers. They could have cut this whole episode halfway through and shown an hour of bloopers and that still wouldn’t have been enough.
  • Hannah is a national treasure who is not afraid to be herself. See two of her best moment from last night below!
  • We don’t know what’s happening, but we are disappointed with how much of this Luke/Hannah fantasy suite drama they showed in the previews last night. We think ABC gave away WAY too much and it kind of takes away from some of the anticipation that was building about this fight between her and Luke about “purity” and marriage. Bad move, ABC.
  • Luke continues to portray himself in a terrible and obnoxious light. We just can’t.

Hopefully next week will be better. Enjoy these two Hannah GIFs in the meantime.

As always, THANK YOU for tuning in with us! We appreciate you so much! Find us and talk with us here or on social media. We can’t wait to hear your thoughts!

Meeting Notes: Episode 12

Three months of podcasting! We have been having a great time sharing our thoughts with you and we hope you’ve been enjoying them too! Meeting 12 includes an update on news stories from last week, an important conversation about preservation of historical sites and the history that surrounds them, a recommendation to be more environmentally conscious, and a Bachelorette update! Listen below and check out our meeting notes!

News Updates: The Trash War, Hawaii, and Everest

After we recorded last week’s episode, we started seeing updates on the stories we shared with you EVERYWHERE. We read some pretty interesting things, so we had to update you this week. First up, the trash war. It turns out that the Philippines is not the only country that takes trash from other larger countries. We know it makes them a profit, but it is still strange to us that these tiny countries would be taking trash. Plenty of drama unfolded in the last week when this strange system came to light and Carrie gave us a great update. What we also learned is that sometimes even the things you put in your recycling bin DON’T get recycled. Check out this article on USA Today for more information!

Amanda Eller released, of all things, a Facebook video last week discussing her ordeal and her rescue. Afterwards, she had to issue some statements apologizing, or clarifying what she said. If you don’t have an hour to watch the video and catch up on the articles, just listen in to our summary. What do YOU think of Amanda Eller? Do you agree with us that she was incredibly irresponsible? Do you find her as hard to believe as we do? We find her story extra frustrating in light of the news that Noah Mina, the other Hawaii hiker that was missing, was found dead a few days after Amanda was rescued (and only 18 miles from her rescue spot.) Or are we completely misinterpreting her story? Let us know what you think!

Hiking at Everest is still a hot topic. Mandy Moore recently completed a small hike up to one of the checkpoints, and we did not realize there were so many! Listen to hear a short update about that, and why we think we don’t appreciate the greatness that is the Everest hike.

New York, 9/11, & Historical Significance

Over the weekend, Sam went to New York City and got a chance to spend some time at the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. She got the unique experience of going for the first time herself, with other people who were old enough to remember the day, and her younger brother, who wasn’t even born when the tragedy happened. These contrasting perspectives, as well as the perspectives of others who were visiting the memorial and monument, made her ask some difficult questions. As a culture, do we treat monuments and memorials differently if we are too far removed from the event? Is that okay? Do we have a different perspective because we live in an area that was basically surrounded on all sides by the scary events of that day? How can we be sure to help the younger generations respect and appreciate the sacrifices and devastation of 9/11? Is there a way to find that sense of national togetherness without another tragic event? We don’t think we have answers to all these questions, but the discussion is powerful and important. We’d love to hear your thoughts too!

Cruise Boats on the Grand Canal?

New York City and the 9/11 Memorial wasn’t the only thing related to historical significance that we talked about this week! In the news recently was the most recent episode with a cruise boat and the Grand Canal in Venice, Italy. While a cruise boat crashing into a river ferry is definitely newsworthy, the unique geography and history of Venice makes this story even more frightening. We aren’t the only ones who are concerned about Venice either. UNESCO already has Venice classified as a World Heritage site, but has threatened to put it on the endangered sites list, which will require more of Venice in terms of plans for tourist management and the upkeep of it’s historical integrity. You can see a video taken from the most recent event here. Have you been to Venice? What are your thoughts on tourism and history? Let us know!

The Bachelorette Recap

We don’t even know if we WANT to do a recap because ABC has left us with a “To Be Continued” episode…HOW MANY TIMES can we, as Bachelor Nation, complain about this before they listen to us? Nothing is more annoying than this type of episode. Nothing. Not even Luke P.

This week was basically entirely focused on Luke vs. Luke (with a little Mike in there, as backup for his buddy Luke S.) and by the third time these guys had the same argument, we were kind of over it. In our opinion, Hannah should have kicked them both out on the spot. BUT, we know she’s got a lust thing going on for Luke P. and Carrie thinks that she’s mad at herself for having feelings for Luke P., so she’s taking it out on Luke S. and trying to twist the situation to make it reasonable for her to keep P instead of S. I mean, we’ve all been there right? Finding some way to manipulate what is happening so we can convince ourselves that the bad guy really isn’t THAT bad? Hannah, we can relate, but it doesn’t make it any less painful to watch.

We saw the ambulance edit happen the same way it has on every other season ever. We are led to believe Luke P. does damage to another contestant in his uncontrolled rage and turns out Kevin just messed up his shoulder tackling the other guys. (This is an entirely different conversation: Why do boys like to tackle each other for fun?)

Jed had a great one-on-one date. Hannah was the one who really shined during their date. She is funny, quirky, and not afraid to be herself around Jed, which is super refreshing. They seem to have a great time together. Big points for Jed, and for Carrie who was the only one to put him on her list. The only thing that made us feel a little weird about it was that Jed openly admitted he originally signed up because he’s a musician who needed a platform. We were shocked that he said that, but maybe it made Hannah feel like he was an honest guy!

We got to see Garrett a little bit more this episode, which was kind of fun. He opened up to Hannah and I think he might have a personality that we can appreciate, even with his lack of airtime. JPJ’s shining moment was reading the date card and that one really long rugby run he had. Other than that, all the guys pretty much maintained whatever status they had last week, with no one making too many gains in the group except Peter. OH, and Tyler C…

Let’s discuss Tyler C. Did he have a breakout performance here? We think so! Hannah was really in her own head at the beginning of her date, and although sometimes Tyler’s words made it feel like he was playing to win, he did seem to really get her out of her funk. Mostly, we appreciate how honest Hannah was with him, telling him her real first impression of him, and actually listening to his road to The Bachelorette. Nicole is slightly more convinced that he’s smarter than she originally thought, but is so distracted by the weird tone and cadence of his voice that she still isn’t 100% convinced he should be in the running for Hannah’s husband.

We have no idea what’s going to happen at the rose ceremony, so we’ll have to catch that next week to see if we lose anyone else from our original picks. Our last thoughts on this season are this: Hannah is the BEST bachelorette ABC has had in a really, really, really long time. We are absolutely obsessed with her and hope she is SUPER successful in finding love. We subscribe to Hannah!

The Ladies Recommend: Reef-Safe Sunscreen

Bermuda

Chemicals in sunscreen are really dangerous for the ocean ecosystems. So much so that Hawaii has banned the sale of sunscreen with damaging chemicals. We talk about some of the negative effects and what to look out for in this week’s episode. We also give you some reef-safe sunscreens you will want to check out. STAY TUNED!! On Friday, we’ll have an entire post dedicated to WHY you need reef-safe sunscreen AND give you some great options to check out!

THANK YOU for listening and checking in with us again this week. Come back Friday morning to get the scoop on sunscreen before you head out for the weekend!
